Our Journey

The brand Armstrong represents our founder, Mr Gilbert Ong’s passion and spirit in charting new territories. Inspired by the first man, Neil Armstrong, who landed on the moon in 1969, he decided to name the company after this iconic figure, believing that Armstrong too, can achieve great success and making the impossible possible. With focus on strong partnerships and innovation, Armstrong today offers market-leading solutions and services that empower customers to create products that touches everyday life.

1974

Armstrong began its journey in Singapore.

1975

Armstrong began its operations as a contract supplier of foam and rubber parts.

1977

Business expanded to manufacturing of custom-made die-cut foam and rubber products.

1980

Armstrong became a private limited company in Singapore.

1983

The company moved its operations to Gul Street, Singapore

1987

  • Armstrong first overseas subsidiary in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  • Armstrong Rubber Manufacturing was established in Singapore

1988

Formed joint venture with Bridgestone Corporation of Japan

1992

Armstrong established presence in Thailand together with Bridgestone Corporation

1995

  • Armstrong was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) Mainboard
  • The company established presence in Jakarta, Indonesia and Wuxi, China

1996

New plant set up in Johor Bahru, Malaysia

1997

Singapore HQ and manufacturing plant moved to Bukit Batok Industrial Park

1998

Joint venture with Odenwald Chemie Gmbh

1999

First Armstrong Odenwald plant in Changchun, China

2001

Armstrong expanded business in Malaysia with the third plant in Penang

2005

Armstrong expanded business in Suzhou and Guangzhou, China

2006

  • Armstrong Odenwald expanded business in Tianjin, China
  • Armstrong established presence into Hanoi, Vietnam

2008

  • Armstrong Odenwald expanded business in Wuhan, China and the company entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indica from India
  • Armstrong shipped its first 1 billion parts to Data Storage Customers

2012

Strategic Partnership with Germany’s Philippine GmbH and Canada’s Kristofoam

2013

Armstrong Odenwald expanded business in Changshu, China

2014

  • Strategic partnership formed with Japan’s Inoac and chose to delist from the SGX
  • Armstrong Odenwald expanded business in Chengdu, China. The Singapore manufacturing plant was transferred to Johor Bahru, Malaysia
  • First in China to produce soft air duct for the Automotive Industry

2015

  • Strategic partnership with PlusFelt from Spain
  • Singapore Head Office relocated to Toa Payoh North

2016

Armstrong Odenwald expanded business in Shenyang, China

2017

Armstrong established presence into Batangas, Philippines

2018

Armstrong Philippines obtained ISO 9000 & 14000 certification and began operation to support Dyson Philippines and local contract manufacturers.

2019

  • Armstrong celebrated its 45th Anniversary in Singapore with a Gala Dinner at the Conrad Hotel with 135 distinguished guests. Armstrong launched its 45th Anniversary Booklet to showcase our success stories and journey.
  • Armstrong Suzhou obtained ISO13485 certification.
  • Armstrong was placed as 1st Runner Up in Enterprise Singapore’s prestigious E50 Awards.

2020

  • Armstrong launches its reusable mask project to mitigate Singapore’s face-mask shortage.
  • Armstrong donated more than 3 million reusable masks to the Red Cross, Migrant Worker’s Centre, NUH, SUTD, and various charities in Singapore.
  • Armstrong Kulai and Armstrong Thailand obtained ISO13485 certification.

2021

  • Enterprise Singapore selected Armstrong for the Scale-Up program that lasts 18 months. The Scale-Up program aims to groom local companies with high-growth potential to be globally competitive and inspirational to others.
  • Armstrong Kuala Lumpur and Armstrong Penang obtained ISO13485 certification.

2022

  • Armstrong, National Healthcare Group and CORI Innolab signed an MOU to explore development of Innovative Health, Medical Technology, and Biotechnology products, including but not limited to Dermatology and Wound Care.
  • Armstrong collaborated with Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) to organise the 3D Printing & Design Innovation Challenge, to promote awareness of 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing) technologies as an assistive tool in the food industry.
  • Armstrong Thailand was awarded the Excellent Supplier Award 2022 by Ford Thailand Manufacturing.
